About

I'm Benito Halim.

I am an independent marketing consultant working from Bugis. Periodbenitoagency is my practice, opened in 2026. There is no team page behind this portrait because there is no team. The work you hire is mine.

How I ended up doing this alone

Before opening this practice I spent most of my career in-house on the client side. I sat in businesses that had to live with the work after the agency left the room. I learned what a report looks like when you cannot hide behind a retainer, and what a campaign feels like when the phone actually rings at the desk next to yours. That is still the habit I trust: if I would not sign the page as the owner, I do not write it as the consultant.

I later worked on the agency side. Some of that was excellent: specialists, production, a bench when someone was ill. Some of it was the thing I now refuse to sell. Accounts passed through layers. The person who sold the work was not the person who did it. The monthly meeting was a performance of activity. I was not angry at the model. I was tired of being the person who had to translate between a slide and a landing page, and of watching clients pay for the translation.

Periodbenitoagency opened in 2026 because I wanted a calendar I could defend. Twelve accounts, my name on the work, a room in Bugis, and a clear line about where I stop. I still use specialists for video, large creative, and development. I still say so up front. The difference is that nobody has to find me through an account manager. If the work is late, it is because I am late. That is a cleaner kind of honest.

What I'm good at, and what I'm not

Good at

I am good at diagnosis that ends in a decision. I can read an untidy set of accounts and say what to stop. I write plainly, in the voice of the business rather than in a borrowed brand tone. I am patient with long sales cycles and impatient with vanity reports. I like the unglamorous stretch: the form, the money page, the monthly paragraph that names a failure. Singapore-scale spend suits me. I know what a few thousand dollars a month can and cannot teach.

Not good at

I am not a designer, though I will sit with one. I am not a developer, though I will write a brief a developer can actually use. I am a poor fit for brands that live on spectacle, for companies that want a room full of people as a signal, and for anything that needs night coverage. I do not enjoy pitching theatre. If a first meeting requires a forty-slide narrative about my process, I am already the wrong hire. I am also not a generalist of all trades. Paid search, conversion, content, and the management of those: yes. Public relations, app builds, broadcast: no, with a referral attached.

How I keep sharp

I keep a small number of accounts on purpose so that I am still in the tools, not only in the meetings. If I cannot open the ad account and change a bid, I have become a commentator. I read the boring parts of the platforms’ own documentation, a few operators who publish their numbers honestly, and the local press enough to know when a neighbourhood or a policy actually moved. I do not collect frameworks for their own sake.

I test changes the same way I ask clients to: one at a time, with a date to read the result, and with permission to reverse. A page, a form field, a match type, a subject line. Bundled changes make heroes of whoever is standing nearest when the number twitches. I would rather be slightly slower and know which lever moved. When a test fails I write it on the monthly page. Hiding a failed test is how you repeat it on the next account.

Working with me, practically

I work Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 6.30pm Singapore time. Saturdays are by appointment, usually a site visit or a call that could not sit in the week. Sundays are closed. The office is at 33 Tan Quee Lan Street, #05-04, Bugis. I take calls there, on the phone, and on a video link. I visit your floor when the work needs a room, a kitchen, or a clinic reception, not as a performance of presence.

I work in English and Malay, and in conversational Mandarin. If a meeting needs to move between those, I can follow. If the work is mostly writing, English is the default, because that is the language of the pages most buyers in this market still land on. I will not pretend my Mandarin is copy-ready. For Mandarin creative I bring in a writer and I stay on the brief.

Holidays are planned. I give notice, I pause what can wait, and for paid media I brief two specialists who can pause or cap spend if something breaks. I do not disappear on a Friday night with a live campaign and no note. If I am unwell, the same arrangement holds. Coverage is for the urgent mechanical change. It is not a second Benito. If you need a Benito-shaped person five days a week in your office, that is a hire, and I will help you make it.

I will do the work myself, I will tell you when I am the wrong person, and I will leave you with systems you can run if I step away.
